I was getting ready to make a left turn out of my apartment complex when I saw a BMW coming up the road from my left. I looked right and was clear, and looked back left and noticed the BMW was decelerating a bit. I thought about executing my turn, but decided against it seeing as how if I mistimed it, or he wasn’t slowing to turn, that BMW is a whole lot more expensive than my Cruze.
And that’s when I saw something I’d never seen before... The BMW’s right turn signal! I called shenanigans and decided to wait to see if he actually executed the turn into my parking lot before I pulled out, because surely this must be some kind of trickery... Well, it happened, the BMW slowed and executed his turn. I was understandable baffled.

People using turn signals? Crazy talk.
Someone smiled at me this morning and let me merge in heavy traffic. What sort of madness is overtaking the world?

Not just anyone... a BMW!
And I think you’re right. Probably a sign to start preparing for the apocalypse.

I use my turn signals in my BMW all the time, except for occasionally in parking lots I forget. If my wife’s in the car and I ever pull into a parking space without signaling , she yells at me like my lack of signaling is going to cause this other car to T-bone us and kill her.
Normally she’s really great, that’s why I married her, but she’s a terrible passenger.

To be fair I virtually never use my signal in parking lots.

She’s just paranoid about other drivers in general. Like she hates the 20-mile stretch of interstate on the way to visit her mom where it’s only 2 lanes in each direction and 70 mph speed limits, and people drive kinda stupidly close to each other. I almost always do the driving on this trip, and inevitably end up having to dodge a few people doing something stupid, and it drives her nuts.

I think people just notice BMW’s more than other cars and tend to think they are worse when signals are concerned. My wife drives one and I’ve had 5 in the past and always signal when necessary. BMW drivers are no worse than any others when not using signals...most people suck at driving properly but it’s more noticeable in a BMW for some reason.
I drive everything the same way, but whenever in a BMW it seems to invoke people to act differently. If I come up on someone in my Transit Connect on the freeway they generally move over and let me go by. In my wife’s BMW they usually don’t move and insist on being irritated while keeping me stuck behind them.
I was pulling in a parking lot a few weeks ago and it’s one you need to get really close to the ticket machine or you need to open the door. This requires a sharper later turn in, so some dude apparently wasn’t paying attention to all this pulling out and hollers slow down out his window to which I responded “fuck off”. For starters I wasn’t going very fast pulling into a parking lot and my signal was on so I’m not really sure what his issue was other than I guess he didn’t see me (narrow street with parked cars on both sides shortly after the turn onto the street). When I parked and got out he was standing behind my car and asked what I had to say now...same thing I said already dude, fuck off! He starts spouting off about me thinking I’m special because I’m driving a BMW and some other nonsense while his veins were popping and I just kept walking while laughing at him. It was too early for that shit and I had a night of dealing with drunks ahead of me so last thing I need is a fight before my shift. I guarantee had I been in my beater Subaru or Transit the whole thing never happens.

Gotcha. I’m very fortunate that my wife just kind of gets in the car and chills out. I inevitably have to deal with stupid drivers, but she doesn’t get too wound up about it usually.

I was just poking a but of fun. But I think you’re right, I live right outside of DC, and I deal with tons of traffic all the time and I honestly don’t think BMW drivers are particularly worse than anyone else.
I think it probably stems from ignorance and it’s an older mentality that’s perpetuated. Recall that not that many years ago BMW was really only the the standout sports-luxury cars (Cadillac and Lincoln were barges, Mercedes I don’t think are too sport aside from the SL, Audi wasn’t really big yet, and the Japanese hadn’t really made a splash with Lexus/Acura/Infiniti either). And those cars were always marketed with a certain amount of arrogance (“The Ultimate Driving Machine,” etc.). Like you said about your encounter with the parking lot dude, the perception was that drivers of these cars were “better” than everyone else. I think that’s just something that’s carried down over time so BMWs are targeted more frequently.
